Gameplay In Detail
Immortal Coil's battles are won by reducing the opponent's HP to zero (and lost by dropping to 0 HP yourself). At the start of each round, player's Max MP increases by 1, allowing them to play multiple cards and more expensive cards. Whenever a player plays a card, the next player gets a turn to do the same. Once a player passes the turn without playing a card, the next player may initiate the Clash - in which spells are cast, units attack, and the current round ends.
Units placed on the board deal damage equal to their attack and block damage with their HP. Most units have special abilities, sometimes immediate effects upon being played or abilities that trigger while in play. When a unit deals damage in excess of the opposing unit's HP, that damage hits the opposing player.
Spell cards can be offensive, defensive, or be more utility focused. Once the Clash begins, spells activate across the board starting from the leftmost lane. When two spells are played into the same lane, the most recent spell played will be cast first.
Auras have a variety of effects, buffing or creating units, shielding, healing, increasing MP, and more. Items are similar, but they must be equipped to a single unit.
Immortal Coil's five color domains are Teal (slow and steady), Pink (ecosystem engines), Purple (scrappy spell slinging tempo), Gold (maximum aggro), and Rust (control). Each color has its own variety of mechanics and importantly each color combination forms their archetypes.
In Adventure Mode, you will combine two starter decks and choose an Edict, a special cooldown ability that can buff units, deal damage, heal, gain MP, steal cards, and more. At the start of each of three acts, you will choose what Zone to traverse - determining what encounters you will face. Your map in the world of Immortal Coil is a deck of cards that will take you to bazaars for card trading, sites of power, great feasts, and deadly encounters. Battle your way to each Zone's boss, and if you survive, perhaps you can challenge the Tyrant Gods themselves.
For players who want to focus purely on deckbuilding and tactical play, Gauntlet Mode strips away Adventure Mode's battle-altering mechanics and pits your constructed deck against a series of curated enemy decks. Gauntlet Mode can be played in either a 30 card or 50 card deck format.
Whichever mode you play, you will earn Sigils to bring to the Altar, where you will unlock packs of new cards, battle boards, card backs, edict powers, and more.
Immortal Coil is designed around high skill expression: every card played, every lane position, and every deckbuilding decision can change the course of a battle. Master the five colors, discover powerful combinations, and climb the difficulties to unlock Exalted Mode for the ultimate challenge.
Story and Setting
Immortal Coil occupies a vast fantasy realm with fairies, dragons, undead, djinn, tyrannical gods, and more. The player takes on the role of a demigod child of the Old Gods, exiled long ago and imprisoned in the stars- finally freed only to return and find a world in the clutches of new, subtler gods. Each card will have readable lore in game for the player to piece together the history and secrets of this world.
